A chemistry laboratory is defined by what it handles: acids, bases, organic solvents, oxidizing agents, and in some laboratories hydrofluoric acid or aqua regia.
Each chemical class can affect worktop, fume hood and storage materials differently. A material that performs well with dilute hydrochloric acid may not be appropriate for concentrated sulfuric acid or chlorinated solvents.
Our chemistry laboratory furniture approach focuses on three core decisions: worktop material selection, fume hood configuration and segregated chemical storage.
The furniture specification should follow the actual chemical environment rather than a generic laboratory layout.
01
“Acid-resistant” is not a single property. Epoxy resin, phenolic resin, PP and ceramic each have different chemical and temperature limitations. Without the actual chemical inventory, material selection is guesswork.
02
Hydrofluoric acid, hot concentrated sulfuric acid, nitric acid and aqua regia can require materials beyond standard laboratory worktops. The work surface should be specified for the actual exposure.
03
Acids, bases, organic solvents and oxidizing agents should not simply be placed in one general-purpose cabinet. Storage configuration should reflect chemical compatibility.
A chemistry lab solution built around three decisions
We review your reagents, concentrations, operating temperatures and exposure frequency before recommending worktop materials and fume hood configurations.
For aggressive chemical exposure, the specification can move beyond standard worktops. HF and hot concentrated acids require dedicated material selection.
Storage is organized according to chemical compatibility, including corrosive cabinets, flammable liquid storage cabinets and separate arrangements for oxidizing agents.
Fume hoods and chemical storage should follow the same specification
Steel fume hoods use a compact phenolic resin liner. The worktop inside the hood follows the same material options as workbenches: phenolic, epoxy, ceramic, PP or granite. Selection is driven by the chemicals used inside the hood.
Chemical storage should be separated by compatibility rather than treated as one general storage category.
Chemical lab tables and benches are designed to withstand chemical exposure and support safe, reliable workflows in chemistry laboratories.
| Work Area | Worktop | Fume Hood | Storage |
| General Chemistry | Epoxy resin | Steel with phenolic liner | Typical cabinet |
| Acid Digestion | PP or Ceramic | PP | Corrosive cabinets |
| Organic Synthesis | Phenolic resin | Steel or PP | Flammable liquid storage cabinet, corrosive cabinets |
| Trace Analysis | Phenolic resin | Stainless steel | Typical cabinet |
Final specifications should be confirmed against the laboratory’s chemical inventory and operating conditions.
Before recommending a worktop, we ask for:
Chemical name and class
Concentration
Operating temperature
Exposure frequency
Chemistry lab furniture should be designed and tested to established international standards:
Our products are designed to meet these standards. For the complete certification list, refer to the Lab Solutions top-level page.
Original epoxy worktops degraded within six months. They were replaced with PP worktops and a PP fume hood. The supplied case information reports no visible degradation after two years of follow-up.
Original PP worktops swelled within a year from toluene and dichloromethane. Replaced with phenolic resin. 18-month follow-up: no swelling or deformation.
Start with your chemical inventory. Review the chemical class, concentration, temperature and exposure frequency. General mineral acids may use epoxy; HF or hot concentrated acids may require PP or ceramic; aromatic or chlorinated solvents may require phenolic resin or stainless steel; strong bases may use PP or epoxy.
The supplied specification recommends a PP fume hood for HF applications. The internal work surface should also be specified as PP or ceramic according to the chemical exposure.
Use corrosive cabinets for acids and bases, flammable liquid storage cabinets for organic solvents, and separate storage for oxidizing agents. Nitric acid should not be stored next to organic solvents.
Provide your laboratory type, room area, number of rooms, project stage, commissioning date, chemical inventory, concentrations, operating temperatures and any special hazardous materials.
